Person-centred care and support stories for home care providers
“I like the company, the camaraderie. I don’t need it all the time, but it’s nice to have it for a bit every day, and to know that someone’s going to sort me out if I need it”.
Meet Margaret, one of six older people, who lives in her own home and who told us about the difference person-centred care has made to the quality of her life. You can meet the home care providers too, for their side of the story.
TLAP publishes six stories today, which offer learning points and guidance for providers of care in people's own homes.

Should we be updating Making it Real? We think so, and now, more than ever!
TLAP remains concerned with what we see as the ‘rhetoric versus reality gap’. Despite policy and legislation, progress with implementing person and community centred approaches has stalled. That's why we see updating Making it Real -with a second summit in October- as urgent and relevant. We need your imput.

Improving personalisation in care homes for older people - SCIE's action planning tool
Because much focus of personalisation has been on supporting older people in community settings, not enough is always being done to support people who are working to make personalisation happen in care homes. SCIE's action planning tool will help managers, and owners of care homes for older people, to explore what personalisation means for residential settings. If you haven't had a look, please do.

Homeshare Uk- the sector report 2017 - what is found
“It has been brilliant for my disabled sister to have an overnight presence in the house and some support – it’s complementary to her package of care with visiting carers coming in the mornings.” Sister of a Householder.
99% of loved ones have reported greater peace of mind since their relative’s Homeshare and 86% have indicated that they would recommend it, according to Homeshare sector report 2017. The investigation also found a 37.5% increase in the number of operating schemes. This is good news for the Homeshare sector giving it confidence in the economic model and the demand. More research is needed, however, to show the positive outcomes if it is to have a stronger impact on the social care sector.

Unlocking the value of VCSE organisations - the role of commissioners
It is essential that public sector funds are used effectively to make sure people can access local, affordable services that meet their needs. A new guide by the Healthy London Partnership (HLP) is intended to stimulate discussion on the value of the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in maintaining a diverse and sustainable sector, and the role of commissioners in this process. The guide offers insights and learning from ‘change makers’ across health and social care, such as how the commissioning process can be adapted to ‘level the playing field’ for VCSE organisations, and how commissioners can help activate the sector.

Space, conversations and co-production. What’s the connection?
"When you think about co-production, do you ever think about the space you do it in and how it affects what you are saying?"
