National network calls for more ‘asset-based areas’ to transform communities and services

"You can focus on what’s wrong with someone in terms of their health and social care but what if you focus on what’s ‘right’? A national network of community practitioners calls for all public sector professionals and commissioners to work with people’s ‘assets’ rather than their ‘deficits’  if they are to  build strong communities and sustainable public services"

Investing in the community takes time, lots of time and sometimes some (gluten free) biscuits

"After years of stuttering progress the project became a vibrant, fluid network that helped community groups understand what each other was trying to do". A candid account on some of the highs and lows of asset-based commissioning from Jim Thomas, Head of Workforce Innovation at Skills for Care.

Introducing Asset Based Areas (and ten ways to make them happen!)

"We wrote [the  paper] because we cannot successfully or affordably add in asset based approaches around the margins, whilst ‘core business’ remains unchanged. We need whole areas to take up the challenge of becoming asset-based, resetting their relationships with local citizens, as Wigan council and a few others attempted. It is time for steady, incremental, whole-place change: it’s all or nothing".
