TLAP’s Partnership meeting

Tackling the 'rhetoric vs reality' gap. Feedback from the TLAP Partnership day

"At our most recent Partnership meeting, members shared their concern about the growing gap between the high level vision of health and social care policy and the practice on the ground, or what we are calling the 'rhetoric vs reality' gap. More importantly, we discussed what we, as a national partnership, propose to do about it".

Community Circles join TLAP

"Community Circles are delighted to have recently joined the Think Local Act Personal Partnership (TLAP).  Community Circles started in 2012 when Helen Sanderson invited a few us to get together to think how we could develop circles of support at scale".

Personal Health Budgets for children and young people with complex needs

Using a personal health budget often improves the quality of a person’s life and sense of wellbeing. But despite their prominence in government policy and their potential in relation to Transforming care, progress has been slow, and particularly amongst children and young people with complex needs. We've launched a report and top tips that explores why; along with some suggestions for what could be done differently.

Improving personalisation in care homes

SCIE launched a new planning tool and four films which help managers, and owners of care homes for older people, to explore what person-centred care means for residential settings. TLAP have also contributed a series of good practice examples from a series of care homes for older people across the country showcasing features such as co-production, access to civic life, volunteer engagement and good environmental designs.

We need to talk about working carers

The number of people becoming carers is growing in line with our aging population and a significant number struggle to cope with the dual responsibilities of caring and working.

We've published Supporting Working Carers along with some Top Tips to address this concern. The products are aimed at employers and outlines how they can adapt their policies to accommodate, and indeed benefit from, the growing workforce of working carers.

Enterprising Communities project - extension

Following on from the success of their earlier Enterprising Communities project, Community Catalysts are again seeking  councils to host pilot sites.  Can you help?

This time the focus is on community enterprises that tackle loneliness and contribute to community wellbeing.  With a three year funding grant they’ll engage Birmingham University to evaluate the projects' impact and value for money. This will support the evidenced business case for investment in community enterprise and business. If you are willing to host the pilots and can contribute a small part of the funding (£15.5k for 2 years and then 7.5k in year 3), contact Community Catalysts

Co-production Week 2017 -

For the second year running, Co-production Week from 3 July will celebrate the benefits of co-production, share good practice and highlight the contribution of people who use services and carers to developing better public services. Co-production sees users and carers as central to the design, delivery and evaluation of care services.

This year Co-production Week, run by the Social Care Institute for Excellence, sees organisations and individuals making Co-production Commitments. A commitment means promising to do at least one thing to support co-production. There’s also the Co-production Week blog – please send any blogs – 350 words with picture – to copro@scie.org.uk. There’s a Twitter event on 3 July at 4pm – hashtag #coproweek. And there’s a free webinar on effective co-production on 6 July at 3pm.
