Think Local Act Personal

Hi,

TLAP is very much up and running, supporting the TLAP partnership and our sector in raising the voice of social care. We will keep the wider TLAP community involved and informed through sharing the experiences and stories of those we work with and those we champion.

Covid-19: FAQs for individuals in receipt of a personal budget or personal health budget

Many people are highly concerned about how they can use their personal budgets and particularly in relation to the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for their personal assistants.

Skills for Care have issued FAQs, with input from TLAP and members of NCAG, which address many of the most urgent questions.

“It is vital that the advice is followed at this difficult time as part of a flexible and person-centred approach. Now more than ever, local authorities and clinical commissioning groups must trust people as experts in their own care”

Care Act easements and the Ethical framework

The Care Act easements in the Coronavirus Act have been introduced for councils in response to Covid-19. Local authorities can activate the easements to streamline assessments, care planning, reviews and financial assessments. They should only trigger the easement if they see it as essential to allowing them to prioritise care and support so that the most urgent and acute needs are met. Local authorities are expected to do everything they can to meet their Care Act duties up until that point and the easement, if introduced, should be temporary.  The Easement guidance and Ethical framework have been produced to assist decision making.  The guidance is very clear that councils are expected to respect the principles of personalisation and co-production which underpin the Care Act 2014.
