What our organisation does to support people with care and support needs:

The Care and Business Support Team support Adult Social Care services across West Sussex, the teams focus is to support services to deliver safe/high quality care and to strengthen and grow.
We support services by providing advice and information on best practice, signposting to appropriate resources, and supporting services countywide to share innovative and creative ideas, including projects that have included community inclusion, personalised services and champions programmes. We work in collaboration with associated teams and providers to support improvements to care services provided to adults in West Sussex.

What we will do to Make it Real

Care Home and Community Engagement Project
The aim of the project was to encourage care homes to open their doors to the local community, this is because there are significant benefits to people living in care homes and those in the community, including increased wellbeing and feeling part of the local area. It is important for people to continue to enjoy activities that they may have done when living in their own home and supports a more personalised experience for people. It provides choice, and promotes decision making by people living in care homes.
We have delivered four Care Home and Community Engagement events across West Sussex aimed at activity champions and registered manager's, and have developed a tool kit to share with care and nursing homes to encourage this approach which draws on the experiences of the people in the care homes that supported the project.

How we will co-produce and with whom

Involved in the project were -
Care and Business Support Team - West Sussex County Council
Partnerships and Communities Team - West Sussex County Council
Residents, Registered Manager, activities co-Ordinator and care staff at St Mary's Residential Home - Worthing and Oakland Grange Residential home- Littlehampton
We involved various services and community groups, to provide access to community groups and activities that people wanted to participate in and bring community groups and activity to the care homes.
