On-line resource directory

What we did

East Sussex County Council has developed an on-line directory of services that brings together a range of information in one place. Eastsussex 1space is easy to use and provides up to date information on local services and community resources. It is free for providers to register and there is the facility for people to give their feedback on services they have used. The directory can be used to help people plan how to use their personal budgets, for people who do not meet eligibility criteria and those funding their own care. The resource was developed by a project group that included people using services, carers, staff, providers, and members of the public. Staff awareness-raising is a continuous process to support the use of 1Space as a key resource to aid support planning.

Why we did it

The resource was developed in order to raise awareness of the services available in the county, enabling both staff and other agencies and/or individuals (including those not eligible for funding from Social Care) to find out about new and innovative services available to meet the needs of people needing care and support. Specific aims were to create a single website to search for local services which was:

  • Easy to use
  • Up to date information
  • Easier to compare services
  • Opportunity to feedback about services

Outcome

Since its launch in 2012 usage has increased and analysis undertaken on patterns of use in order to inform future development. The directory also provides a hub for information for children's services and public health. As a next stage it is intended to design customer journey maps for support plans to make it easier for people to create their own support plans.
