Exploration and Discovery – report on Phase II of the Social Care Innovation Network

Added on

Starting with a clear story of change is just one of the ingredients to creating a successful area where innovation can flourish, according to the latest report produced by the Social Care Innovation Network published today.

The network has brought councils, providers and citizens together to look at how social care can be improved by developing and encouraging more innovative approaches.

Clenton Farquharson, TLAP Chair said “‘The Social Care Innovation Network, of which I am a member, is offering the sector a great opportunity to generate more clarity around innovation, so that we scratch beneath the surface of a buzz word and apply a theory with big feet right from the start.’

What is the social care innovation network?

The network, a partnership between TLAP, SCIE and Shared Lives Plus is examining how the sector can take up more innovative approaches to providing quality care. The first phase focused on exploring the challenges and barriers to scaling innovation across the adult social care sector.

Phase two - discovery

Phase II is characterised as the discovery phase – to develop, through three learning groups, practical lessons on creating the conditions in which innovations can flourish or proliferate.

Three themes

There are three main themes that are linked and have been shown to make a difference to the quality of people’s lives – creating asset-based areas, commissioning and using self-directed support.

A short report Exploration and Discovery - Phase II summary report summarising the work and thinking to date of the learning groups has been published today. Each group has produced a more detailed study and all resources are published:

The resources and report will be of interest to all those who are committed to creating a new and better form of social care.  The Social Care Innovation Network is a partnership between SCIE, TLAP and Shared Lives Plus, funded by the Department of Health and Social Care.
