New social care action plan applies to many with care and support needs

TLAP welcomes the publication of the Covid-19 action plan for adult social care. We are pleased that the plan makes explicit its application to people who use direct payments and self-funders as well as residential care home workers and home care workers.  Direct payment recipients will be reassured that local authorities and CCGs are urged to adopt a more flexible approach to the use of direct payments to ensure people can continue to control how their care is met.  Further, we welcome the commitment to hear directly from people who access care and support through using the Making it Real ‘I’ statements.

TLAP Chair, Clenton Farquharson, said, “It’s good to see a response to some of our concerns about support for people with direct payments who employ PA’s. We look forward to more detailed guidance setting out how direct payment recipients can access PPE, testing and training . Moving forward,  I am pleased that TLAP will play a leading role in understanding the impact of Care Act easements and COVID-19 more widely on people with care and support needs.
