Statement from TLAP Chair Clenton Farquharson on DHSC announcement to extend PHB

As the Chair of Think Local Act Personal, a partnership dedicated to transforming the experience of care and support through personalisation, and as someone who uses a wheelchair, I welcome the announcement by DHSC to extend the legal right to have a personal health budget.

This shows the government’s recognition of personalisation as a key enabler to support more people to have choice and control over how they live their lives, as described in the NHS Long Term Plan.

However, we need to remember that personal budgets are only one component of personalised care; it is a far wider agenda that encompasses a focus on wellbeing and prevention, community capacity building and universally accessible information and advice.
