Leadership for Empowered Communities and Personalised Care Programme – recruiting now!

Added on

The national Leadership for Empowered Communities and Personalised Care Programme (LECPC) is now open to applications.

The programme is for senior leaders, clinicians, transformation leads, commissioning and service managers in health, social care, the voluntary sector and beyond who want to be part of a movement for change in public services. Participants will join a network of alumni who are championing community wellbeing and transforming systems across the country.

In response to the emphasis placed on personalised care in the NHS Long Term Plan, this year's programme has been extended to help leaders meet the new challenge of making personalised care a reality in health and care, by exploring the major shift in power and decision-making that needs to take place at a local level.

Participants will develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to ensure that people get choice and control over the way their care is planned and delivered, based on ‘what matters’ to them.  They will explore the role of local ‘social capital’ in improving health and how leaders can work with citizens to shape the services and communities that people need and want.

The programme involves a series of one-day workshops (one of which is residential), action learning sets, one-to-one leadership coaching sessions, a Myers-Briggs (MBTI) analysis of personality style and a specialist 360-degree feedback diagnostic.

A New Economics Foundation evaluation of the programme stated: “The leadership programme was regarded in positive terms unanimously by those that attended. It was described as “excellent”, “inspirational” and perhaps most crucially, has already led to new leadership behaviours…The collaborative development and delivery of the leadership programme was pioneering, and should be used as a guide for other professional development programme across the public sector.”

A recent participant said: “'This course has stretched my scope of thinking beyond traditional boundaries. I now aim to move to a way of working that ensures shared decision making and a focus on how to use expertise better, to activate collective solutions.'

“Community connectedness is not just about warm fuzzy tales of civic triumph. In measurable and well-documented ways, social capital makes an enormous difference in our lives...Social capital makes us smarter, healthier, safer, richer, and better able to govern a just and stable democracy." Robert Putnam
