Context - What this means for Lewis and his family

Lewis is 16 years old, he attends the post 16 unit of a special needs school and lives with his mum Julie, step-dad Steve, and two brothers.

Lewis has a severe learning disability and autism, he also has a complicated form of epilepsy which causes him to have a range of complex and severe seizures. He takes epilepsy medication and uses a vagal nerve stimulator.

Now he is approaching 18, Lewis and his family are thinking about what becoming an adult will mean and how they should prepare. Lewis’s local authority have a team called ‘My Life My Way’ which can support them. His mum Julie meets with Alice, who is a team coordinator, and they decide that she is the best person to help develop and coordinate his care and support plan.
