Hi,
At our last partners meeting, colleagues and those with lived experience discussed proposals for the social care green paper and its parallel programme for working age adults.
We’ll be taking these forward in discussions with the Department of Health & Social Care. All of them are rooted in TLAP’s experience of good person-centred care. They are:
- co-production, particulary as a model to inform both programmes
- innovation: the world has changed and so must our approach to supporting people
- communities: they are a critical part of the health and social care solution
- funding: it has to be long term, sustainable and sensible.
(A longer viersion of this message appeared in an update from TLAP Head Caroline Speirs to the 52 partners)
Over the coming weeks and months TLAP will provide examples in our e-newsletter and network meetings of these appoaches, which we believe ought to be writ large in both programmes.

How-to Guides for creating an asset-based area
TLAP is offering practical support on how system change can happen, at scale, by shifting to an asset based approach. Here we present the first in a series of ‘how to‘ guides from Clive Miller, consultant and author, and Alex Fox, Chief Executive of Shared Lives Plus, who argue that it is this approach that will support whole system reform.

Pooling direct payments – call for examples
TLAP are looking for recent examples in social care of people with care and support needs coming together to use their direct payments collectively. We want to hear from people with experience of purchasing activities, services or materials together with others that have supported wellbeing and independence. Gig Buddies on the BBC
Gig Buddies is another great example of a social care innovation and we're delighted that it recently featured on the BBC. For those who aren't familiar it is a volunteer befriending project that matches up socially isolated people with learning disabilities and/or autism with a volunteer who shares the same musical and cultural interests.
