What we did

Warwickshire County Council has run a series of workshops on their RAS aimed at supporting adult social care managers (operations/team managers and social worker team leaders) to understand the background to the RAS, how to use and complete the process, effectively audit, and enhance current practice and support staff to successfully complete the RAS. Information was gathered to establish what was working and what was not working and to identify where the gaps were. Guidance and information fact sheets were updated to be shared during the workshops, together with a flow chart explaining each stage of completing the RAS.

The programme was signed off by service managers and endorsed by the Practice Development Group. This group is made up of a cross section of managers and practitioners, Business Management / Programme Management, Hospital Social Care Team, Customer Service, Media, Learning & Development Service, Reviewing, Sustainable communities, Business Intelligence, Strategic Commissioning. The purpose of the group is to provide a representative forum of staff members to identify and contribute developing good practice guidance, policies and protocols. The group has an important role in embedding personalisation into practice and building a culture which is supportive of personalisation.

Why we did it

There have been a number of challenges/barriers with completing the RAS and feedback from both managers and practitioners was that there was a lack of understanding around what the statements meant in the RAS, resulting in confusion over translating the information received from the customer into the RAS.

Outcome

The impact of the workshop is being evaluated to gauge the effect it has had on improving completion of the RAS by practitioners. Feedback gained at the workshop will help to refine and improve the RAS. Consideration is being given to running a similar workshop for practitioners.
