Care Funding Calculator

Since 2008, the East Midlands Care Funding Calculator project has enabled the region's local authorities to negotiate savings in excess of £4.5 million, with average price reductions of 17%.

The Calculator is a free toolkit for adult social care commissioners of Learning Disability, Physical Disability and Mental Health residential and supported living placements. It helps make best use of resources by establishing a 'fair price for care', alongside securing improved outcomes for individuals.

It provides a comprehensive breakdown of both the individual package of care and the accommodation related costs and enables care commissioners to strike a fair and sustainable deal for the required service. Further benefits include services more directly linked to the needs of individuals and clearer contractual arrangements which a number of providers have welcomed.

The project successfully engaged with all nine local authorities, promoting a regional approach of collaboration and information sharing.

Under a separate project (delivered by the East Midlands, West Midlands and South East Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships) work is being carried out to web- enable these tools and to adapt them for use in Children & Young People's placements.
