Department of Health Personalisation of Care Summit

The Care Services Minister Norman Lamb is hosting a 'personalisation of care summit' on Wednesday 11 September. This will be an opportunity for government and representatives of key social care sector partners, including people who use services and carers, to:

  • Review progress with personalisation - looking beyond numbers, with a strong focus on outcomes and results for people.
  • Consider key challenges to further progress in the context of developing policy and legislation, acknowledging the difficult financial position.
  • Outline key actions that could be taken to achieve further improvements by key sector bodies over the next one to two years.

Social care stakeholders will be asked how the government and partners can work together to ensure that personal budgets offer people real choice and control, particularly as the Care Bill places personal budgets on a statutory footing for the first time.

Key topics will include:

  • People's lived experience of personalisation
  • Personal budgets supporting health and social care integration
  • Supporting commissioning and market development and provider experience
  • Current position regarding progress with personal budgets

Underpinning these will be issues of co-production, workforce, practice, culture and an asset-based approach.

Following the summit, the suggestions for action will be turned into a plan for activity by government and partners.

Think Local Act Personal is facilitating the event, which will run from 9am - 1pm.

In advance of the summit, TLAP held a preparatory meeting of its self-directed support forum on 3 September 2013. This was an open invitation event that brought together over 60 people from across the sector with varied experiences to share what has worked well, what the challenges are and suggested priorities for action. These will help inform the discussion at the summit.
