Co-producing Mental Health Awareness

Added on

Certitude supports adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. Working in the London borough of Brent they identified that the Somali community were not accessing primary mental health services. Certitude worked with leaders of a local Somali community organisation to plan a workshop, the aim of which was to build mental health awareness and knowledge about accessing services.

Somali video clips on wellbeing were used to explain the topic in a culturally sensitive way; technical and medical terms were translated into Somali. The workshop was so successful that Certitude went on to support the Somali organisation to co-deliver the same workshop to their own community in Somali. The session was very interactive with those attending feeling able to openly discuss mental health issues. Work is now taking place to support the community organisation to develop their own Wellbeing Somali Drop-In.
