National Market Development Forum work recognised in new Department of Health programme
TLAP welcomes the launch of the Government's "Developing Care Markets for Quality and Choice (DCMQC) programme", which builds on much of the work undertaken by Think Local Act Personal's (TLAP's) National Market Development Forum (NMDF). We, with our partners including ADASS and the Department of Health (DH), have led the way in working with providers, commissioners and the people who use services to bring together the information and tools required to facilitate a greater choice of affordable, locally available, responsive services that people want.
Most recently, we published "Stronger Partnerships for Better Outcomes: A protocol for market relations", which offers a set of principles and good behaviours that, if applied, will enhance effective ways of working between people, family carers, service providers and local authority commissioners. This was developed alongside "Commissioning the Future: Workshop materials to start a new conversation", delivered for TLAP by The Institute of Public Care (IPC).
"Within TLAP, we are continually looking for ideas that will produce both good outcomes and good value for money. Our market facilitation resources have been produced by our partners to that end. I am delighted that our good work has been recognised by the DH in the publication of "Developing Care Markets for Quality and Choice programme". In particular, it encompasses the principles set out in TLAP's protocol because good market facilitation is all about relationships, not meetings and structures."
Bill Mumford, Chair, NMDF
We look forward to working closely with DH, ADASS and IPC to continue sharing what we have learnt from the NMDF so that together, we can assist local authorities build their capacity to shape a diverse, vibrant and high quality market for social care services to improve choice, provide tailored care and focus care on the outcomes that matter to people.
